FILE Professional On Line Help

Concepts

Starting FILE Professional.

There are many ways in which FILE Professional can be started, including the following:

Starting from the command line is easy, the relevant command should be available in the path, and it is simply a matter of typing the following at the command prompt:

ufm

That's all there is to it. After a few seconds the introduction screen will appear, followed shortly by the familiar interface.

Display Objects

There are several windows which will be visable once the product has started; these include:

Selecting Files

Selecting files is easy! It is simply a matter of using the mouse and doing a <LEFT-CLICK> over a file name. Once the file is selected, it should change from black to blue. Once one or more files are selected the menu options should be enabled.

Simply using the <LEFT-CLICK> will only select a single file. It is possible to select multiple files by using the keyboard in conjunction with the mouse. If you use the "Control Key", usually marked "CTRL", then it is possible to add single files to the current select files or files.

If you wish to select a range of files, then select the first in the range, and then use the "SHIFT" key with the mouse button on the last of the range - this will highlight all files in that particular range. There is no limit to the number of selected files.

Advanced File Selection

It is also possible to extend the selections over several directories and partitions. Once a file is selected in one partition window, to select other files as well as this file, then use of the "CONTROL" and mouse clicks must be made. If use of the mouse only is made, then the previously selected file, even if in another window, will be de-selected.

So that allows you to select multiple files in different windows - however it is currently not possible to select files from different directories in the same partition window.

Using Files

Now that a file, or series of files have been selected, the next thing is to actually perform some actions on the files. Actions on files can take place in the following ways:
