Printer Configuration

CUPS
The Common UNIX Printer Solution provides a portable printing layer for UNIX-based operating systems. It was developed by Easy Software Products and is now owned and maintained by Apple Inc. to promote a standard printing solution. It is the standard printing system in Mac OSX and most Linux distributions. CUPS uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP") as the basis for managing print jobs and queues and adds network printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing options to support real-world printing.

CUPS is as easy to use as it is to spell. To launch CUPS:
YDL Menu ==> Applications ==> System Tools ==> Printing

  1. Enter the root password, as instructed.

  2. Select "New Printer".

  3. Follow the step-by-step instructions.

  4. The select "Print Test Page", bottom-center of the main window.
