July 30, 2010 This is the SoftwareVault for all software related to NeXT computers and the NextStep/NeXTSTEP/NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP (1988-1997) operating systems, as well as the "Yelow Box" environment on Windows. It is meant to preserve this software for posterity, mainly because NeXT, small as it was, has been pivotal in th edevelopment of our computer experience, starting on a 'minicomputer' and evolving to Apple personal computers running Mac OS X (2000...) and Apple mobile devices running iOS (2007...). This area is divided in three subareas: - Untested contains software that is provided as-is and there is no confirmation that the software provided here actaally works (is complete, etc.) - BrokenOrIncomplete is for software distributions that are broken, say 5 floppy images from a distribution that contained 7 originally. When th emissing 2 are found, it moves to untested, when it has been installed by someone and reported to install, it moves to CheckedToWork - CheckedToWork contains materials that are known to be installable in a way that leads to a working installation. Note: some software may need licenses, these may or may not be available. We strive to get free licenses for everybody.
