The X audio system, version .007 The X Audio System provides platform independent, device indpendent, network transparent audio services. Or at least it will, when the implementation is complete. (Implementation was stopped in August '96, after it was announced that the Consortium was closing.) The X Audio System is a great idea though, so the Consortium decided to make the specifications and partial implementation available, in hopes that others will finish it. So, Here's you chance to win fame and glory. There's work to be done and fortunes to be had. The source and documentation is available in a tar file in this directory. You can learn more about the Xaudio System by reading the html presentation in the xtech96 subdirectory. Finally, I'd like to thank the major contributors: Peter Derr at Digital (pderr@zk3.dec.com) David Rivas at Sun (jdr@eng.sun.com) Shawn McMurdo at SCO (shawnm@sco.com) Jill Natakata at Sun (nakata@eng.sun.com) Mark Welch here at the Consortium (mw@x.org) Thanks, Ray Tice (ray@x.org)
