Freedom Desktop The Freedom to get more things done!! * File and Directory Management o Support for basic and advanced file operations to provide easy access to files, applications and peripherals o Context-sensitive actions defined for all common file types for quick file manipulation o Drag and Drop capabilities for quick application launching and file management. For instance, to copy a file on a directory, just click on it with the mouse, drag it to the target directory and release the mouse o "Rubber-banding" allows the selection of groups of files or directories just by clicking and dragging the mouse o Change Properties dialog allows users to change file properties (protections, permissions ..) of a file or set of files in a single operation o Support for additional file operations (find, print ..) to find, print and manipulate files o Support for color icons (XPM3 format) to visually identify the file type and access permissions at a glance o Quick access to the Freedom file operations can also be accomplished by using hot keys and the right mouse button menu o For added flexibility, Freedom provides several ways of visualizing your files: long, short and icon listing * Built-in terminal window (*) A built-in terminal window extends and complements the capabilities of the point and click interface. It allow users to type commands directly. This feature helps overcome the limitations of most GUIs. It also eliminates the frustration that advanced users experience with GUIs. The terminal window and the directory window are fully integrated: all the changes made from the command line of the terminal window are reflected immediately in the directory window. * Program Manager Groups The program manager application acts as a place holder for groups of often used files, directories and applications. This provides users with a convenient way of organizing their files and applications. For instance, the user can set up custom groups for program development, desktop publishing, financial analysis or any desired activity. Users can also customize groups to automate repetitive tasks to the greatest extent. * Session Management capabilities For maximum configurability and to automate the initial launching of applications, a startup group is provided. All the applications in this group are launched each time that Freedom Desktop is started. * Scripting language subset of the standard shell (sh) (*) To maximize the reuse of legacy shell scripts, Freedom Desktop relies on the standard scripting capabilities provided by Unix. There is no need for learning and maintaining a new proprietary scripting language. * Tutorial mode (*) Freedom Desktop can be setup to translate user actions into Unix commands. This feature is included as a tutorial capability that allows users to learn or improve their knowledge of Unix. * On-line help To help the user get comfortable with the interface, Freedom Desktop comes with a task-oriented on-line help system. * Installation process Easy-to-use scripts make the installation process as simple as possible. The software should be ready to be used in no time (less than five minutes). * Requirements 16 MB RAM and X Window Release 4 or later. Supports Open Windows. * General Several unsupported public domain applications are included to enhance the environment. Among them, a motif editor, an icon editor and a screen grabber.
