If you are on AC power and have a PCMCIA card plugging in, then
the machine will refuse to suspend or hibernate. Usually if you
take out the card (or just 'cardctl eject'), you can then hibernate
or suspend. With my 560 I sometimes found that once it failed
trying to hibernate, then it would not hibernate again, until
I did 'modprobe -r floppy' and 'modprobe floppy' to reload the
floppy driver (no need to have a floppy drive attached) -- that
piece of floppy advice was found on google. -+- 128.59.58.86 = Lynx/2.8.4rel.1 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.7d #2005-03-19 -+- SHARON -+- BABYDOLLSHAY@YAHOO.COM -+- I AM HAVING TROUBLE STARTING MY COMPUTER. - In the beginning I was trying to set up a 540MB "Hidden Win95 (FAT16) LBA" partition but it only worked when I resized it to 280MB. Perhaps if I had used FAT32 instead it would have worked but as I don't intend to upgrade my RAM I'll just leave it this way.

- I used "parted" to resize an ext3 partition and free some space to the hibernation partition and it worked very well. This FAT partition isn't in the beginning of the disk nor in the end so I conclude it can be anywhere in the disk.

- X server didn't resume properly after hybernation and I had to restart it with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. This problem was solved including the following line to the "Device" section of xorg.conf:
Option "HWcursor" "false"

- I'm still having problems with the sound card, it just doesn't work after resuming from hibernation. I still haven't tried hard to solve it but I hope this will be the easiest part. -+- 200.160.3.96 = Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050922 Firefox/1.0.7 2005-12-08 -+- Du!! -+- unixdu@maps.du.eti.br -+- [SOLVED] Sound card problem after resuming suspend/hibernation

- Just unload and reload the ALSA modules. On Debian and Ubuntu:
/etc/init.d/alsa force reload

This also solves the problem with MPlayer that doesn't work right away after resuming from suspend/hibermation. -+- 200.160.3.96 = Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050922 Firefox/1.0.7 2005-12-08 -+- Peter Fales -+- -+- Success here on a T23. I'm running Fedora Core 4 with a 2.6.14 kernel. I found that it was necessary to add acpi=off to the kernel parameters to make it work.

after some time waste with the lphdisk tool, which is suggestet frequently in the net to get hibernation working on thinkpads I did the procedure described hire (I've done already one year ago, but forgot) a second time; and now I can use my x20 thinkpad as in former times with its original but damaged harddrive!
