Subject: [*] Hang2000 - A Killer Word Game
Hang2000 Released!
Merrimack, New Hampshire, May 10, 1998: Ken Winograd and
Space-Time Associates announced today the release of a new,
fun Macintosh shareware game called Hang2000. Hang2000 is
a new take on the classic hangman word guessing game we
all played when we were kids. It features colorful,
non-violent graphics, digitized sounds, synthesized speech,
dozens of built-in word categories, thousands of words,
unlimited lists of your own words, and much more.
Hang2000 is "secretly educational". It's played for fun,
but you can't help learning. Included in Hang2000 is a
new "knowledge area". This area will include
information associated with the guessed word or phrase.
If the word chosen is from the States or Countries
category, for example, the knowledge area will show the
capital of the State or Country. If the category is Authors
or Composers, the knowledge area will show facts about, or
famous works of, the author or composer. Of course, you can
also make your own lists (unlimited in number) and include
your own associated information.
There are dozens of categories, guaranteed to include
something for everyone. From Monsters and Dinosaurs to
Star Trek and Television Shows, from Animals and Birds
to Colors and Cities, from Fruits and Vegetables to
Presidents and Vice-Presidents, from Rock and Roll to
Opera and Musical Instruments. And literally dozens more!
Hang2000 requires a Macintosh that supports 256 colors
or more.
Hang2000 is available now. For more information, or to
download the program, please visit the Hang2000 web page at:

Subject: [*] Kineticon 1.2 - animated icons on your desktop!
Announcing the release of Kineticon version 1.2!
Kineticon brings your Mac's motionless icons to life!
Kineticon is a system extension which replaces normal, static icons on your
Macintosh's desktop and in its windows with chosen animated icons.
Kineticon is fully configurable, allowing you to choose which icons should
animate simply by enabling them within Kineticon's editor.
Kineticon Editor (included in the Kineticon package) allows you to create
custom animations which can be made to appear in place of any icon
displayed by your Macintosh.
With Kineticon you will have THE COOLEST hard drive icon on your block!
With Kineticon you will have THE CUTEST trash can icon in your neighborhood!
And remember, if you don't like the included animations, you can easily
make your own!
Some of the many changes in version 1.2 from 1.1.4:
* Added the ability to preview kines from within Kineticon Editor.
* Fixed a bug which could cause animation not to occur on some Macs.
* Fixed a crashing bug in the little floating registration reminder window.
* Fixed a bug which could make the floating reminder window un-closeable.
System requirements:
* Any Macintosh with at least a 68020 processor (both 68K and PowerPC Macs
are supported).
* System 7.1 or higher (may work on earlier systems above 7.0 - only tested
with systems 7.5 through 8.1).
* Color (doesn't work in grayscale or black and white, sorry).
* Free RAM: at least 300K. More RAM is needed depending on how many
animating icons are enabled.
* 2 MB of hard drive space (for the extension, editor and animating icon
files).
* Faster Macs (such as PowerMacs) are recommended.
Cost:
* All this for only $10 US!

Lotto Tracker II - uses past Lotto results and probability logic to propose

based on the names of people and things. And with its unique Prorated option,
statistics get real meaning for all the lotto numbers, regardless of which draw

Subject: [*] MacRun 1.1b1
One of the biggest challenges that the MacOS faces in today's marketplace is
the idea that Windows is better because "it can do things that the Mac
can't." While most of us know this is not entirely true, there is a
mentality out there that is very difficult to overcome. The MacOS can do
most of the things Windows can, and in many cases can do them better.
However, believe it or not, I have heard many people complain that they
don't like to use the MacOS because it doesn't have a "Run" function.
Phooey! The "Run" function of Windows is one of the most inefficient things
I've ever seen when it comes to computer interface design. However, I'm not
going to ignore the "Windoze Whiners." In this case, I'm going to one-up
them.
MacRun is my answer. It, very simply, adds the same functionality to the
MacOS that the "Run..." command gives Windows. It is also much more
configurable than its Windows counterpart as well as much more powerful.
When installed, MacRun will appear very familiar to those Windows users that
desire the "Run..." command. After a bit of use, they won't know how they
could ever stand the Windoze "Run..." command!
This is a PUBLIC beta-version of the newest version of MacRun (1.1b1).
Anyone may download and use this file. Future updates to MacRun will be
available at the SearchWare Solutions web-site
(http://www.radiks.net/search).

Subject: [*] MenuCapture 1.0.2 (a free screen snapshot utility)
Once in a while, I need to take a picture of the screen with a menu pulled
down, in order to document one of my shareware programs. If I did this
every day, I suppose I wouldn't mind paying for a screen capture program
with all the bells and whistles, but as it is, I resist. Years ago, there
was a tiny freeware extension called StillDown, by Gregory M. Robbins, that
enabled command-shift-3 screen shots with menus pulled down. But StillDown
doesn't work with Mac OS 8. Therefore, I decided to write a new free
bare-bones menu snapshot program: MenuCapture.
To install MenuCapture, drop it in your Control Panels folder and reboot.
To use MenuCapture, open the MenuCapture control panel and click the
"Enable" checkbox. Then pull down a menu, and briefly press the keys
command, shift, and control simultaneously. What happens next depends on
what version of the system you are running. With System 7.6 or later, the
cursor turns into a cross-hair; let up the mouse button, then click and
drag to select a rectangle to be copied to the clipboard. With earlier
systems, a snapshot of the whole screen is saved as a picture file on your
disk.
Version 1.0.2 makes it more obvious how to capture a contextual menu, by
ensuring that the cursor changes to a cross-hair.

Midi Thru is for use with either OMS or Midi Manager. If you don't know
what these are, then you don't need Midi Thru. Midi Thru simply
connects a controller synth to a slave synth. Midi Thru allows you to
slave up to six synths, sending on the midi channels of your choice.
It's great for those times when you don't want to fire up a major memory eating
sequencing program to use as a midi thru or when you want to write
lyrics in your word processor and don't have enough memory left to fire
up your memory hogging midi sequencer or if you just want to jam on that
favorite synth module. Its a simple program that does one thing and one
thing well. It's a Midi Thru !!!! Midi Thru works on any mac running
sys 7.0 and up with at least 2.5 meg of free ram. Midi Delay is now a
Fat Binary, which means it will run in the fast native mode on power
macs. Best of all Midi Thru is absolutely free of charge. Yes, thats no

Subject: [*] MyEyes 2.3b1 (BETA version)
MyEyes 2.3b1
What is MyEyes?
MyEyes is a small extension that draws on the menubar a pair of eyes
constantly following the cursor movement.
WARNING! Beta Version
This public beta release of MyEyes is for testing purposes only.
It expires on July 1, 1998.
What's new in MyEyes 2.3
General:
- Recompiled with CodeWarrior Professional release 2.
- Completely rewritten in C/C++.
- Mac OS 7.1 or later is now required for running MyEyes.
- Added support for Conflict Catcher 4.1 vendor information format.
Control Panel specific:
- The setup application is now a Control Panel item (in fact, an
application control), with an almost completely redesigned interface and a
new icon.
- Now External Eyes Sets are selected from a scrolling list in the
Settings dialog. The list shows custom Set icons and supports full keyboard
navigation and selection.
- Now developers can associate default preferences to External Eyes
Sets requiring specific settings to work properly (see the "About External
Eyes Sets" file for details).
- Two new buttons have been added to the Settings dialog. The "Default"
button applies 'factory settings' to the currently selected Eyes Set. The
button named "Use Current Set Preferences" restores current Set's default
preferences.
- Now External Eyes Sets can be automatically installed into the "Eyes
Sets" folder and activated when double-clicked in the Finder.
- Fixed a bug that caused the eyes to disappear when dragged outside
the screen's borders (fixed position).
- MyEyes is now 100% Appearance Manager and Kaleidoscope savvy.
Extension specific:
- Solved a conflict with Helium 3.x from Tiger Technologies that caused
the eyes to disappear from the menubar when the 'Hide the Help Menu' option
was selected in the Helium control panel (Mac OS 8 or later).
- Three new parameters, describing iris actual size and distance from
the eyeball center, have been added to the External Eyes Sets description
structure. The 'eyes' resource template has been accordingly extended (see
the "About External Eyes Sets" file for details).
- The "Eyes Sets" folder is created at startup if not present.
Requirements
68020/030/040 or PowerPC;

Subject: [*] Polychem2
Polychem2 is an update of the chemistry demo 'Polychem' that provides a
titration module from a comprehensive multimedia tutorial and simulation
tool. One that helps teachers and students by providing hundreds of
hours of student activity.
The software is aimed at senior high school to junior college levels,
with an emphasis on the applied nature of chemistry. Most high schools
use it for years 11 and 12.
Research has shown that the students using the software are well
motivated and enjoy using the software. They prefer the software to
traditional types of instruction and have more have fun in chemistry.
Students are on task for a longer time and have been more motivated.
This environment can be used a significant teaching tool, not just as a
supplement. Students are empowered to take more responsibility for their
own learning and can spend time learning, not just copying down notes.
The program contains notes, computer generated interactive questions and
exam questions from a large number of chemistry topics, the demo shows a
titration section. There are also many simulations of equipment and of
chemical processes. There is also an extensive section on organic
chemistry that contains notes, interactive sections, simulations
questions and nomenclature problems. There are also chemistry based
games, demonstrations and activities. A key feature is the provision of
model answers for the computer generated questions to help student
reflection and analysis.
The text notes displayed can be modified on screen, even over a network,
and printed. The text can be enlarged using the controls for use by the
teacher on a classroom projector or to benefit students with visual
impairments. Examination questions can be added and altered, and
facilities are included so that other developers can add topics and
modules. Provided the user has write privileges to a disk, then
assignment marks can be recorded as well as user names, times and dates.
Computers required are Macintosh, 16mB RAM recommended (there is also a
Windows version). The program uses 4mB of physical ram so it may run on
8mB machines if there are few memory intensive extensions. A Mac 040
would be the minimum configuration computer, with a colour 640 x 480
screen.

Subject: [*] Virtual 2.0 - the Mac Virtual Desktop is back!
If you're familiar with X-Windows workstations, you have probably used one
virtual window manager or other. Virtual is one of those, for the Mac. It
presents you with multiple 'virtual screens' where you can place your
windows, so you don't have a clutter of them on your real screen. You can
switch virtual screens with a key combination, or by choosing that screen
in the Virtual window. You can drag windows around to move them to other
screens, and so on.
This is the final version of the new Virtual 2.0. It is fully compatible
with Mac OS 8, and has tons of improvements over previous versions,
including:
- More visual feedback: zoom rects when switching screens, changing desktop
pattern to match the virtual screen's pattern, live dragging of windows.
- Reorganized mouse-switching into three modes: simple (wait), elastic
(push against the edge of the screen), ballistic (throw the mouse against
the edge).
- Reorganized preferences: added balloon help and two new sections: Virtual
Screens (setting of pattern and name info for virtual screens) and Sticky.
Added option to add, as well as remove dogged apps and sticky windows.
- Misc tweeks: clicking the title bar of the Virtual window brings Virtual
to the front, etc.
- Now using an installer for easy installation.
- Misc bug fixes.
- Since 2.0b3, the crashing bug on 68k machines has been fixed, and a few
tweaks have been performed.
Regular updates are provided at http://www.kagi.com/paour
$10 Shareware.
