In addition to its drag-and-drop capabilities, this editor supports Speech Manager, which makes it possible for you to hear your text spoken aloud. Tex-Edit Plus offers a page-counting option, support for a start-up script, and a multitude of scripts that can simplify the task of manipulating HTML and other documents. Tex-Edit Plus 2.9 has several new commands. Find Selection will find the next (or previous) instance of the selected text. Sort will sort the selected paragraphs in ascending (or descending) order. The Balance command will extend the selection to pair up parentheses, ellipses, and brackets. A new "Resources preserved" preference allows you to preserve non-Tex-Edit file resources (e.g. "ckid") during saves. Our sysop sent out just such a certificate, and all I had to do was open it in IE, and it knew what to do with it. Exactly how it knew, I'm not exactly sure, since the file's type/creator codes are '????' and '----'. As with many things Mac, it "just worked"! ------------------------------ Date: 2 Mar 2000 03:06:07 -0800 From: eating@earthlink.net Subject: ISO "Shock Da Monkey" Dear Digesticists: I have a collection of Robert Carr's fabulously irreverent (to put it mildly) shareware/freeware from his now- defunct "Lamprey Systems". However, due to a disasterous error (my own) I've lost one, "Shock Da Monkey", and it seems that it is no longer available on the web. Also, R.Carr seems to have dropped out of existence. If you have this title, know where to get it or where I can contact R.Carr, please let me know. When I start up Word or Excel they sometimes take a very long time to open (around 50 seconds), with the splash identifying banner at the start sometimes saying 'Configuring Office..'. Sometimes opening either programmes takes just a few seconds (say 4 seconds). Anyone has any ideas why this is so? I have two hard disks, and they both contain Word and Excel, and they both have a System folder, though my usual startup disk has Excel version 3 on it as that version is the only one able to open very early versions of Excel. I would dearly like to eliminate the wait time. Thanks, > Ezra Nathan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Mar 2000 09:48:41 -0500 From: "Steele, John" Subject: PC Anywhere Connection To PPC? Welcome back Info-Mac. Great job to the admins! I'm trying to connect to my work machine (Pentium II 450 mhz Gateway running Windoze NT service pack 5, with fax/modem and working phone line) from my home machine (PM 6500/275 running System 8.6). My Microsoft-headed colleagues run PC Anywhere and log in direct. Can this be done from Mac to PC? I would like to have an external microphone. My old Classic II mic is not working with the iMac. Is there a way to connect a PC microphone to an iMac and what is the difference between omni (old Macs), PC and Plain Talk microphones? Can you guide me how much is the fair price to pay for a PlainTalk mic - for a new one and for a second hand one? Thanks everyone for their friendly advice, but I thought I'd let everyone know that I've found the perfect match! Alpha fits the bill in every way! I did not see some functionality the first time that was pretty key and after being pointed in the right direction from a fellow reader, I discovered that it did have most things. And the one thing it did NOT have, I was able to program into it myself with minimal trouble! THANKS EVERYONE! --Chris ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Mar 2000 15:30:59 +0200 From: Michael Silverstein Subject: Vinyl records into CDs What is the best (highest quality) way to record a CD from a vinyl record? I have a G4, a stereo system and a CD-RW which I can hook together. My questions are about the route: which program should I use, which file format should I save in, etc. Thanks in advance for the help!
