Although they can be connected using LocalTalk cabling, problems may be encountered when more than one user attempts to print simultaneously. Whenever possible, each user on the network should avoid sending a print job at the same time as another user and should wait for the printer to finish its current print job before sending a new one. Also for best results when printing over an AppleTalk network, make sure each user turns background printing OFF. Timecodes, edgecodes and framecounts can be converted into several other formats simultaneously. The basic math operations can be performed on these timecodes. The supported TC formats are PAL, NTSC Drop, NTSC Non-Drop, HD/Film 24p, 35mm, 16mm20, 16mm40, framecount, as well as TC and EC formats with freely selectable framerates (currently between 1 and 100 fps/fpe). An offset management system deals with situations in which timecodes have changed due to transfers. If the same frame that originated on a piece of film and is identified there by an edgecode is transferred to, say, two different tapes and ends up there having two entirely unrelated timecodes, TcTC offers a method of establishing a relation between these different, essentially arbitrary edgecodes and timecodes and thus allows you to keep track of the footage in the various places. TcTC requires a Macintosh with a PPC processor and MacOS 8.5 or higher. Any >suggestions? Often this happens because a disk is shared, or thinks it's shared. You can check this by mounting the disk in question, "Get Info" on it, and check the "Sharing" panel. Not having the disk is trouble, but not insurmountable trouble (excuse the pun). Disks with an "AppleShare PDS" file on their root level (an invisible file) have sharing information, which sometimes becomes corrupted. I have a OneClick script that will delete all these invisible files from local volumes. However, I don't think that's necessary for your case since you think it's a CD-ROM that's causing the trouble. You just have to go into the "Preferences" folder and delete the contents of the "File Sharing" folder. These will be files ending in ".PDF" and bearing the name of the CD-ROM. After you restart, the computer shouldn't ask for the disk any more. (You might also check to see whether "File Sharing" is turned on, through the control panel of the same name; if you don't need it, it can slow your computer down and it should be turned off.) There are probably other things that can cause this, but this is my best guess. +- Saint John -+ | I didn't cry when Bambi's mother died... but I cried when HAL | +- was turned off. --------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 18:31:51 -0500 From: Donald Webb To: digest@info-mac.org Subject: [Q] Cross-platform programming? The managing editor (not the programmer) says, "With 111 megs of video, we're pushing the limits of CD technology, especially with Macintosh". Put FmServer on your machine, put the machine in a cool, remote closet, and then lock the door. * You can have file sharing running on a second hard drive, and have FmServer do its scheduled backups from the primary hard drive to that second hard drive; then you can have a backup program back up the second hard drive over the network, if you can set it up to do so without loading any extra Extensions on the FmServer such as Retrospect Client.
